Iron Man Custom Windows 7 Start Menu Button (Icon)

sshot73

This is a custom start menu button/icon that I cooked up to replace Windows 7’s little blue orb with the logo in it. Instead of that Orb, this gives you Tony Stark’s Arc Reactor which responds to mouse-over and click in it’s own way (normal state, charged/glowing state, and firing state). It’s simple, it’s clean and it looks awesome when you’re rocking an Iron Man theme across Windows. You can find my Windows Logon Screen Wallpapers here to go with it. Instructions on how to set this as your icon are located below the image.

Note: Keep the image in .bmp format or else it will not be usable.

Iron Man Windows 7 Start Menu Icon

In order to change the icon in your start menu you will have to use a tool. Here is “Windows 7 Start Button Changer” which can do this for you. Make sure, for your own peace of mind, that you set a Windows Restore point just in case. You can never be too careful when playing with Windows’ UI.

Right click on the exe and choose to open it as admin (feel free to scan it before hand with your favorite anti-virus. I used 2 different ones and its nice and clean for me).

It will give you two options, one will be to search for the image above that you should have saved to your PC somewhere and set that as your new icon and the other option restores your original Windows 7 icon back (in case you decide to just set things back to normal).

Keep in mind, that when you set the new icon, the app will close all running sessions of Explorer.exe and restart it which will result in any “Windows Explorer” window that you may have open closing and your task bar will vanish for a moment before it brings it back by restarting explorer.exe’s process. So make sure you are not working in Windows Explorer (file browser) when you make the change.

Done! It is simple as that!

If you wish to share this with others, please simply link back to this article to do so. That way the other person(s) will be able to see the full instructions. Thank you.

Iron Man Windows Logon Screen Wallpaper

Here are some free Windows Logon screen wallpapers/backgrounds I created a few years back. The Windows user logon boxes will fit nicely in the center to complement the images and goes well with the new Iron Man Windows 7 Start Menu Button I made. Instructions are available below the images on how to set them as your background.

Iron Man                            War Machine

Warning, this requires modifications to your Windows registry so only continue if you know what you are doing. If you don’t want to play with your register you could use a third-party tool like Tweak.com’s Logon Changer to make the change for you.

Step 1: Open the Windows Start menu and type “regedit” into the search bar and hit enter.

Step 2: Right click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and select Find.

Step 3: Search for OEMBackground, which should be in ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUIBackground. If the key does not exist, add a new DWORD value with the name OEMBackground.

Step 4: Double click on the entry OEMBackground, and change the value from 0 to 1.

Step 5: Open Windows Explorer and go to the following path: %windir%system32oobe.

Step 6: Create a new folder named info, and open it.

Step 7: Create a new folder within info named backgrounds.

Step 8: Rename your desired wallpaper as backgroundDefault.jpg and place it inside the folder backgrounds (images must be less than 245KB in size).

Now just lock your PC, log off or reboot and enjoy.

Updates coming to the Win 8 Themed AV Startpage

WP_20130713_001[1]For those of you that use the startpage in which we created for everyone (a unique page to replace their browser’s startpage or “new tab” page…more details below), there is an update coming that you probably have already seen begin.

We have already moved a few links around based on popularity or recommendations and now we are adding a whole new section. We have received some requests to bring in more of a presence for gaming. So you may have noticed there are 4 scenes instead of 3 on the page; one of which very well states “coming soon”.

This will be dedicated to both console and online video games. For the online games we will try to focus on the free games and will attempt to update shortcuts based on popularity so that no unpopular game is wasting space 🙂

You can get to the startpage by the following link: http://www.animevortex.net/html/startpage

WP_20130713_001[1]

What is the startpage? The startpage was created by us to offer users a fun and unique approach to setting their startpage or “new tab” page in their browser. It is themed after Windows 8/Phone/Xbox’s metro style theme. It works with your mouse for both scrolling and clicking (arrow icons), as well as your keyboard as you can use the left and right arrows on your keyboard to switch scenes, each scene with it’s own group of shortcuts. Now with 4 categories (scenes) it offers the main scene, Games, Social and News/Fun.

Other updates you will have noticed is the background has been switched to an image vs a solid color (used to be purple) and we will look at future options for that as well…maybe a rotation feature depending on load times.

Also, Google search box now sends all search queries via Google Encrypted Search (better for local privacy when it comes to your online search activity). If you chose a different search provider, that obviously no longer applies.

What is Google Encrypted Search? That comes down to all of the recent complaints about internet privacy and how the search engines track everything you do and provide that information to the websites you click on through referrer information as well as analytic data (data farming) for the displayed advertisements. With Google Encrypted, it isn’t a perfect solution thanks to Google’s own actions behind it but basically if the website you click in the results uses HTTP, it will have no idea where you’re coming from or what your search query is. If it uses HTTPS, it will receive referrer information normally. So it prevents half of the shared data to the world about your search activities…the other half however will still see it. Is this addition to the page a big one?….not really. It’s just something extra to have on there.

Answers (Q&A):

“Why is it you chose Google for the search box vs the others engines”: Google is only set by default due to popularity (more users use it over the others). You can actually click on the little magnifying glass icon and it will give you a selection of Google, Yahoo, Bing and even Wikipedia. So the control is actually in your own hands 😀

…I guess that covers the questions that have came in heh.

Las Vegas Mobsquad Continues to Celebrate As The Original I’m A Cow Song” Spreads

AlbumArtWhen the Las Vegas Mobsquad originally posted the I’m a Cow Song animation on YouTube, switching it up from live comedy skits to animation for the first time, they never expected the video to take off and become one of their their most popular projects. What started as an idea inspired by a younger sister of one of the members, eventually turned into a series of animations that have spread like a virus. First it received a few hundred views and sat still before it started growing our of nowhere. It broke past 10k views, then 25k, then 50…100…..and now over 130,000 views later it is still being shared by cow lover across the world.

That influenced them to product a number of videos in the series to help supply the demand.

See what started it all with just a simple animation:

Available on iTunes, the proceeds help go towards the small sister’s (the one who inspired them to do it) future college fund. Pretty nice deal for simply giving them an idea.

Las Vegas Mobsquad Now Has An Official Website Outside of YouTube

MobsquadProductionLogoThe Las Vegas Mobsquad has announced that they have finally launched an official website outside of youtube to consolidate everything together. Best of all, some of the cool features will be coming to this blog soon allowing smoother login integration with external apis like facebook, google and such.

You may ask….hmm….why isn’t that you talk so much about the LVMobsquad all the time in your posts. Well that’s because I’m secretly affiliated with them (see the logo at the bottom of their site -_^) in a way you may never know (or maybe you already know and my bubble’s been popped, who knows). 🙂

Congratulations to the Las Vegas Mobsquad for growing so big!

Newsgroups Provider Newshosting Upgrades Their Retention to 1750 Days (and growing)

newsgroups6451561156I am always writing my many reviews for various services around the internet, and this one never gets old. I have mentioned them (Newshosting) many times in the past (including one of the most popular posts on this website: “How to use Newsgroups for Downloading Anime (for Beginners)“) as being one of the very BEST newsgroup services to use (without a doubt). They are the fastest, they are the most reliable, most affordable (especially for what you get) and of course they have one of the highest retention windows in the market (now towering in at 1750 days and growing!).

That means it retains post records for 1750+ days compared to the competition which still on average offers about a year…maybe two. So if you run across a post that you just really have to read or download, and it was posted over 4 years ago…it can still be yours. No more of having to set a year limit in your newsgroup reader for searching for posts. Newshosting has offered far more retention for a number of years now and it just keeps growing. Who knows what it will be by next year. Newhosting’s resources are massive and they don’t shed a single tear at sharing it with you.

So if you enjoy newsgroups, and enjoy not having a limitation to what you can find…and say…you want all the anime your heart could ever desire (or pictures, news, art, open source applications and whatever other media exists out there)…choose Newshosting. I myself have been using them for years and you won’t find me with anyone else! A big thanks to them! Keep it up!

…I got a little hyper in my thoughts there out of excitement but well worth it as I already have a post for the day 😀

7 Differences Between Pepsi And Coke You May Have Not Known

CokePepsi

1. If you ever find yourself in a heated Pepsi-Coke dispute, forget the point: “Coke came first”. John Pemberton, the creator of Coca-Cola, created it in the year 1886 in Fulton County, Georgia. There were many prohibition laws regarding Coca-Cola at the time but these were all passed eventually. Pepsi, however, was created in 1893 by a man named Caleb Bradham of North Carolina.

2. The nutrition label on Pepsi bottles state that it contains just over one gram of sugar, this is most certainly not the case. Pepsi contains many artificial sweeteners (which are not classed as sugars hence why it only has one gram of sugar within itself) hence making it much sweeter than coke. As a consequence, this gives Pepsi a slight chemical aftertaste.

3. Coke has a characteristically “raisin-vanilla” taste. This is due to the chemical ‘vanillan’. Pepsi, however, has a citrus flavour that disperses as it is drunk.

4. “Spheres” are the measurement of how carbonated a drink is (how much CO2 is dissolved into it). Pepsi has a lesser amount of spheres in comparison to Coke. So if one opens a can of coke, it’s going to be more carbonated than a can of Pepsi, in turn making it fizzier!

5. To lower people’s perspective on Coke, Pepsi developed a formula that was designed for taste tests. They formulated a marketing scheme, “The Pepsi Challenge”. Pepsi’s distinctive citrus taste and its lesser carbonation worked in its favour. In the majority of cases, when comparing the two beverages, people generally preferred the beverage with a more intense flavour and less carbonation.

6. Although Pepsi has more sweeteners in comparison to Coke, Coke has a larger salt content. In a 240 mL serving, Coke contains 33 mg of sodium in comparison to that of 20 mg in Pepsi. Sodium has an impact on ones blood pressure, so be aware.

7. Pepsi contains three more grams of caffeine than Coke.
