A step away from the typical dining for geeks, I had the privilege of attending Carrabba’s attempt at the world’s largest wine dinner/pairing event last night (March 21st) that was held simultaneously at 244 locations across the nation. They served up a four-course meal with wines paired with each.
The location that I attended was packed, leaving room for error when it comes to getting the food out for that many people, yet they were able to deliver despite this challenge.
The atmosphere of the restaurant and the quality of service provided by the staff were (continue reading…)
It looks like Fullmetal Alchemist is making its way to the big screen with a live action movie, set to release in 2o17. So far the trailer doesn’t give much away but you can already see it taking shape. The costumes look a little cosplay more than anything but that may not stop it from being a great movie unless the acting is shotty.
So, this year I have been busy as usual having fun with PhotoShop. One of my favorite topics of the year seems to be the Presidential debate. Who would have thought that, right? Most of these images were posted to places like Facebook, and you wouldn’t believe the responses some of them would get. Some of them, people actually thought they were real (ie, “I thought North Korea endorsed Trump….”). More proof that people will believe almost anything they read online (victims of my forever on-going study of the human psyche).
Anyway, I wanted to share a small collection of these images right (continue reading…)
Assuming you can even get into Comic-Con via their crazy lottery system, there is no better way to attend than using the official Comic-Con app, which can be downloaded from the Apple of Android app stores. The app easily cruises all of the programming, guests and so much more where you can check times, show/convention floor location with an interactive map and so much more. You can also favorite any of these so you can (continue reading…)
Ok, we may not be talking about the Hollywood side of things, but something that rests within the umbrella of their brand. The MGM Grand (Hotel and Casino) in Las Vegas, in an effort to “save a small bit of cash”, has made the decision to lay off their entire production crew (and then some) and outsource them to a third party “labor company”. This decision affects hundreds of positions, ranging from stagehands, technicians, engineers and more (even the ushers that help find you seats). MGM has been recognized in the past for having one of the “number one in-house production teams in the nation” (specifically mentioned: MGM Grand Garden Arena), mentioned everyone from trade magazines to words pouring from the mouths of their clients themselves.
The new change will be official as of February 12th, 2016 and all employees have been offered the chance to apply for the third party labor company, which sadly is well known for paying around 1/3rd less than what most of them have been used to earning for many, many years. There is nothing like making magic and coming a long ways, just to a take a giant step backwards in the end. My condolences go out to all of the employees of MGM Grand that are affected by all of this. This truly is another dark time for the crushing of educated/successful jobs by large corporations. One more step towards the destruction of the middle class.
Now here is something that Star Wars geeks of all levels can enjoy as they make their daily breakfast or snack.
A waffle maker that shapes your waffles into the Death Star so that you can destroy it by sinking your teeth into it every time (find it here). Stainless steel with a non-stick plate inside, it stands up to any other single waffle maker you find in the store, so why not make your waffle maker do a little extra by shaping it into something fun?
Second, a toaster that toasts the Star Wars logo onto everything you slide into it. Toaster, muffins, frozen waffles and more; just slide them in and brand them every time. It comes with features like defrost and quick stop and once again—why not? The backside features the slider bar and temperature/setting controls. You can find it here. .
Both of these could easily find their way into the home of any geek, nerd, dork or whatever else you brand yourself with. Now you can brand your toast and waffles just the same. Now if only they would make a chocolate chip cookie maker that shapes them into chocolate chip Death Star cookie balls of some sort. I’d be floored and having to whip out the cash without thinking twice.
One thing I have bought into was the Star Wars silicone ice trays that allow you to shape your ice into Storm Troopers, R2D2s, X-Wing fighters, frozen Han, the Falcon and more. The best thing is that you can use them for chocolate and other things as well which makes it all more the fun. Usually you find these custom trays for like $8-12 a piece (depending on where you buy them), with the largest price around $13-15 at theme parks. I found 6 trays for less than $15 on Amazon so that was a bonus! (find those here)
I actually missed this one. It will be shown next month (explained below) here in the US but it actually came out in Japan earlier this summer (June)–and it never crossed my eyes. GitS (Ghost in the Shell) is a fun collection of both series and movies, generally with a deep storyline as well as a fun score (OST/soundtrack). In my opinion, the original movie is in my top 5 list of classic Japanese animation (anime) films that no anime fan should ever miss.
It’s hard to believe a new one came out without my knowing of (continue reading…)
A few days ago, The Las Vegas Mobsquad celebrated one million views on their “I’m a Cow Song” video on YouTube. A video that was created a few years ago for a young sibling (based on an ideas from that sibling) has officially reached “holly crap” status!
Help LVMS (aka LVMobsquad aka Las Vegas Mobsquad aka super fun guys to hang out with that will change your life forever because they are just…..that great of guys) celebrate by (continue reading…)
Looks like life just hit the reset switch. What I consider to be my “main” job, announced last week that we are all going to be laid off in December. A great Christmas present to everyone to celebrate the new year with. They decided it would be best for us (aka cheaper for them) to outsource to a 3rd party company for labor. Of course we all have the option of joining the new company at 1/3 or (continue reading…)Tweet
To start off, the link is available below–I took over this project from wouterv simply to upgrade it to work with phpBB 3.1.x since it had lost functionality due to troubles such as deprecated php. I insisted on getting it to work and there was no reason it couldn’t be shared with the rest of the world as it is such a useful mod for phpBB. Although I’ll keep an eye on the Discussion/Support screen when possible, I don’t plan on maintaining it past that unless it loses functionality again. It already has all of the features you would expect to find in it (outside of getting crazy with things).
If you would like to take the project over, message me on phpBB’s forums and we can discuss it. I am sure people would like (continue reading…)
